  1. Calculate Net Profit: $5,200 - $4,000 = $1,200 gain.
  2. Divide by Cost Basis: $1,200 / $4,000 = 0.30.
  3. Convert to Percentage: 0.30 Γ— 100 = 30.0% ROI.

Common Missteps & Limitations

While ROI is popular for its simplicity, relying on standard ROI alone has notable limitations:
